Eminem Stan. Why Eminem is Postmodern? • Alterity • Bricolage • Dadaism • Hyperreality • Kitsch • Pastiche Eminem is in general very postmodern, most of his videos include parody’s, things out of the norm and very opinion based views of the world. The video I’m going to be talking about is his song called Stan. This video is very postmodern as Eminem has sung the song from two points of view, one as himself and one as an obsessed fan portraying dual roles and how he is playing altered states. This is out of the norm and different to s normal music video. The first part of this video shows how Stanley is dying his hair similarly to Eminem this shows the obsessed nature of this fan and how Eminem’s video is portraying his fans and how some go to such extreme lengths to be like him. This part of the video also portrays how he is aggressive towards his pregnant wife showing a shift in how women are being treated and this is the new age.

Postmodernism

"Postmodernism is a general and wide-ranging term which is applied to many disciplines, including literature, art, philosophy, architecture, fiction, and literary criticism. Postmodernism is largely a reaction to the assumed certainty of scientific or objective efforts to explain reality. In essence, it is based on the position that reality is not mirrored in human understanding of it, but is rather constructed as the mind tries to understand its own personal reality. Postmodernism is therefore skeptical of explanations which claim to be valid for all groups, cultures, traditions, or races, and instead focuses on the relative truths of each person. In the postmodern understanding, interpretation is everything; reality only comes into being through our interpretations of what the world to us individually. Postmodernism relies on concrete experience over abstract principles, arguing that the outcome of one's own experience will necessarily be fallible and relative, rather than certain and universal"
